The ARt Tree is a Sydney based Art Group that began when two artists Vanessa Chaperlin and Rachel Carroll met in order to discuss the concept of collaboration. They saw it as a chance to unite local Sydney Northern Beaches artists who otherwise work in professional isolation, to network, gain new skills and to gain a wider audience. The group grew organically to ten artists and quickly gained the interest of the wider community. As the group evolved, Rachel and Vanessa soon realized that as well as supporting emerging artists, the group was orientated towards giving back to the broader community. Thus each exhibition has doubled as a charity fund raiser ever since.
In 2008 The ARt Tree successfully supported ANTaR (Australian's for Native Title and Reconcilliation), and the exhibition was named in honour of Humanity. More information on 2008 exhibition....
Now in 2009 The ARt Tree has more than doubled the membership to 23 creative artists. For the Mary Place Gallery Group Exhibition this year, each artist in the ARt tree is donating a single image that will be put toward a silent auction for the chosen charity. The theme is Petite, and all artists are working small. This year the chosen charity is one creating a stronger foundation of support for a community in Papua New Guinea, the charity is called “Friends of Rambutso.” More information on 2009 exhibition....
In 2009, The ARt tree also exhibited during the Manly Arts Festival and the Manly Jazz Festival weekends at the new gallery space installed in Queenscliff Surf Club.
