Immerse Exhibition 2010 Dank Street Waterloo

...Immerse
Exhibition
Tuesday 16 – Sunday 28 February 2010

Location: Depot II Gallery, 2 Danks Street , Waterloo NSW - www.2danksstreet.com.au

Immerse features emerging Australian artists Cade Turner, Matthew Weatherstone, Jarrah Johnson and Rachel Carroll who unite to create an exhibition experience that immerses the viewer in the beauty of the natural Australian environment, through large scale painting and photography, whilst also raising awareness to the fragility of the natural environment, and the need to preserve it for future generations. Each Artist has chosen a specific location within Australia as their focus, including the Murray Darling River Basin, Tasmania, the Flinders Ranges and broader NSW.

Each artist will be donating an artwork to a silent auction for their chosen charity, the National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) for their ongoing program to save the Red River Gum Trees of NSW.

Officially opened by MP Ian Cohen from the Greens and a representative from the NPA, the exhibition aims to see Art, Science and Government united for a greener future. We look forward to seeing you there!

ARTIST STATEMENT BODY MOD
Princesses of Perfection

The blueprint society provides us for the ‘new me’ is communicated via the media and exampled by celebrities. It’s an emancipated Barbie Doll, flamingoed legs, huge tits, drum tight expressionless face, overstuffed sausage lips. She’s a cougar feminist dressed like a stripper doing the work of nuns in war torn countries while adopting children, having her own and releasing award winning albums and movies, never ageing, with a silent adoring 20 year younger Ken on her arm. A Princess of Perfection. Adored and ridiculed but always secretly coveted. At least externally, I too can get it all now at the local Shopping Mall in the fastest growing franchise in the world, the walk in plastic injection/surgery day spa. Not only can I get Botox and Lemon Detox for lunch and new breasts and liposuction for dinner , I can have my legs lengthened, toes remodeled, eyes reshaped, arse lifted, naval replaced and collar bones enhanced for breakfast! Where will it end?

ARTIST STATEMENT BODY MOD
Rehashed

The part of me that everyone sees is my piercing. They don’t look beyond it. I wanted my lip pierced as an addition to myself, an expression of myself, not as a definition.
My work for this exhibition asks you to delve a little deeper, to think about what surrounds my focuses of various body art. Not just what the person looks like, but how they think, feel, love.
What do they do? Who are they?
Are they just you, slightly Rehashed?
